Pillow craze

Peeps buying out all the sugar is the one thing I can understand — it's all 90's trauma. I still remember those insane 50-kilo sacks in the larder and digging up more sugar out of them every once in a while. Weird how past crisis reactions become a reflex of sorts.
What bugs me now is why the bloody hell everyone is stockpiling pillows?! And blankets. I mean, I went to a store yesterday, and it was chock-full and half the peeps are buying the goddamn pillows. I saw an elderly woman at the entrance who was hauling SEVEN pillows. Dear god.
Aside from that, the observation is simple — the goods that were affordable before are either disappearing or attaining, quite frankly, an astronomical quality to their pricing. There is some replacement, obviously Chinese, but given the shrinking offer, the good Chinese stuff is now expensive, even after you adjust for wrecked ruble rates, and there are lots of Chinese goods appearing with the level of no-name low-quality hitting all-time high. Duh.
I wonder how low we will sink.
Maybe it's high time to start learning some basic Chinese.
